Frozen Shoulder or to give it its correct name - adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that affects the movement in the shoulder joints.  In some cases the person may not be able to move the shoulder at all.

It is caused when the capsule (flexible tissue that surrounds the shoulder joint) thickens and becomes inflamed.  It is not fully known why this happens but it is more likely to develop if there has been an injury or surgery to the area, if the person has diabetes, heart disease or a stroke, or through a condition called Dupuytren’s Contracture, where small lumps of tissue form in the hands and fingers.

Frozen shoulder can last for between 18 and 24 months but in some cases the symptoms may last for many years.
